Komal Devi
Komal Devi is a housewife with strong entrepreneurship skills. She is 34 years and lives with her husband at Koriasya, near Deoghar town. They have two daughters, both of them studying at school.
Komal Devi decided to do some activity to earn an extra income and make her family more comfortable as her husband’s income is insufficient in comparison to the family expenditure.
She started a business with tailoring blouses, saree falls and other such small orders.
As she interacted with the women she realized that the main market is far away and it is not possible for women to reach the market easily. She used this gap very intelligently and started selling bangles and cosmetics. There is a good demand for glass bangles especially during the wedding season.
She took a microloan and expanded her business by selling sarees along fancy glass bangles, vermilion, small mirrors, combs, clips, ear rings, hair bands, etc. Now her average daily income is 150/- to 250/-.
On completing her first loan Komal took the second loan and established a full-fledged shop in her house. She rebuilt her house and gave the shop some proper space with proper display space.
Now she has paid back this second loan too and is on her third loan. Now she wishes to sell artificial jewellery as well.
The shop is in her home and that enables her to maintain both the family and the business well. Her bigger dream is that her two daughters get better education and can establish themselves well in life.
A story of micro credit making a big impact.
