Mukkavammal

Here is the inspirational story of Mukkavammal.

She is 80 years old or should we say young. She lost her husband a very long time ago and she is still working, earning money and living a life of dignity. Her 3 sons are married and she lives by herself in Manapparai, Trichy.

She has raised her children on her own and fought many hardships in her life. She grew flowers and sold them on a little patch of land that she owned, As always is the case, this could not sustain her family and Mukkavammal had to sell the land.

She then tried her hand at rearing goat and her age and health did not permit her to carry this on. She had to give this up also.

She then came upon basket weaving and till today she weaves and sells baskets. They are known to be the most beautiful baskets in her area and she is proud of them. Over time, Mukkavammal has managed to grow some herbs and plants in her small kitchen garden. The enterprising lady makes herbal toothpastes and shampoos from these plants and sells them.

She works everyday, ensures that her products are always available and is able to earn money. She says that she had decided long ago that whatever happens she will make things work out for her and her children. Today, she lives on her own terms.

We pray that God gives her strength to carry on for many more years and we can takes pages from her book of life to inspire many others.
